It’s summer. It’s hot. It’s Friday. You don’t feel like cooking. Why not go out to eat?
Sound familiar? Eating out is definitely a treat. If you are the head chef of your household, it’s a welcome break to have someone else wait on you–and your kids.
Of course, if you generally try to ensure healthy meals for your family, you also know that eating out comes with a price. Chances are you are all going to consume more calories than you would if you had stayed at home. And you know that’s ok if it’s just once in a while…
So, let’s think back to when you last ate out? Wow, was it really just last night that you all had pizza?
If you don’t eat out very often, you can probably go ahead and order whatever you like. Likewise, if you are trying to lose weight or manage a health condition, you probably need to pay close attention to what you order every time you go out. And if you have kids, well chances are they are not going to substitute a salad for their fries…but there are other strategies you can take.
So how do you spot the healthier choices? Which foods are higher in calories than we realize? And how many French fries are really in one serving?
Stay tuned for my next blog…
