Simple Homemade Hummus
Making your own hummus is really simple and so much tastier than store-bought. All you need is a food processor or blender and in 5 minutes you have fresh, homemade hummus.
It’s a really fun, quick-cooking activity to do with kids. Use the below recipe as a guideline and then adjust it to your liking. Perhaps you like it more garlicky or lemony? Or maybe you want some cayenne pepper in there to really give it some spice.
This is a good, basic recipe to add to your repertoire. Whether you need an easy appetizer, an after school snack, a dollop of creamy protein to go with your salad, or a healthy sandwich spread, this hummus is perfect.
Simple Homemade Hummus
1 (15-ounce) can chickpeas
1 small clove garlic
2 tablespoons tahini
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons water
½ teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cumin (optional)
¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil
- Drain and rinse chickpeas.
- Add chickpeas, garlic, tahini, lemon juice, water, salt, and cumin to a food processor and pulse to combine.
- Add olive oil and continue to pulse until smooth and creamy. Taste test and adjust seasoning as needed.
- Use a spoon or spatula to carefully transfer the hummus to a bowl.
Variation: Experiment with adding more garlic, cumin, or lemon to your hummus. Or, to add even more zippiness, try adding cayenne pepper, parsley, chives, or scallions.
