Homemade Granola
One of the fan-favorite recipes on this site is my Homemade Granola. My family refers to it as “Hälsa ‘Nola” and it’s perfect for hearty morning breakfasts and bringing as a hostess gift. But I have also had some requests for granola that is lower in saturated fat and sugar.
So in response to these requests–and my own desire to mix up some new versions of granola, I got testing. It didn’t take that many batches to come up with this Cardamom Hemp Granola recipe, which must be pretty good because we keep running out of it!

Nourishing Ingredients
This recipe features hemp hearts, which are hulled hemp seeds. Hemp hearts are a nutrient powerhouse, packed with fiber, protein, and omega-3 fatty acids. I keep them on hand to add to everything from smoothie bowls to avocado toast to salads. I also love to add them to my cocoa-coconut bliss balls instead of nuts.
Because it’s lower in added oil and sugar, this granola doesn’t always form big clusters like many granola recipes do. (Though if you let it bake without stirring and then let it cool without touching it’s more likely to stick together.)
But it’s perfect for sprinkling on everything from kefir to yogurt to smoothies to donut apples. Of course, you could always up the sugar and oil content a bit if you are craving a more classic granola!
One more reason to make this recipe? The combination of cardamom and cinnamon will have your house smelling like a bakery for several hours. So. Good.

Another healthy spin on granola is muesli. It’s basically granola but without any added oil or sugar! You can check out my Cardamom Muesli here. (Yes, I like cardamom!)
